ReplyDeleteShe was born to the late Lester and Sara McKinnon Monroe on May 23, 1948, in Rockingham, N.C. Dawn married Ron Vazquez in 1971 and they made Lilburn their home 40 years ago.
Dawn was a stay-at-home mom to three daughters, Chrissy, Lauren and Ronnie. She so loved and adored her daughters and held many titles as they grew up: soccer team mom, Girl Scout leader, perpetual room mom and PTA president, to name a few. Her hospitable heart, sense of humor and magnetic personality made her a dear friend to many. She always made holidays and gatherings memorable and special. A truly wonderful Southern cook and perfect hostess, she loved cooking for her family or catering a big get-together for many, many friends.
Dawn excelled as a writer and storyteller. Friends and family looked forward to her beautifully written holiday letter each Christmas. She adored being a grandmother and spent as much time as she could with her five grandchildren; attending countless birthday parties, school performances, ballet recitals and soccer games. She was also an active member of St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church in Lilburn. The heart of her family, Dawn will be greatly missed and fondly remembered forever.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Dianne Markham.

Beverly Poe McCain of 13223 Fairfax Road, Hagerstown, Maryland, passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on the beautiful, sunny morning of Saturday, July 12, 2014 at her home in the presence of her family.
ReplyDeleteBorn Sunday, June 15, 1952 in Rockingham, N.C., she is the daughter of William Avery Poe and Ann Steadman Poe of Rockingham and the wife of David O. McCain.
Bev's childhood was filled with joy, love, support and fun with her wonderful family. After attending school in Rockingham, she graduated from Meredith College in 1974 with a bachelor of science degree in sociology. Following graduation, she and David were married in Rockingham, then joining him in Grand Blanc, Mich. to begin a marvelous and loving life, partnership and friendship together.
In 1977, Bev and Dave moved to Hagerstown. In 1980, they moved to Horbury, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom, returning to Hagerstown in 1984. Katherine and Abby came along in the '90s to complete our loving family. All along the way, Bev provided guidance, support and encouragement for all we did in business, social, education, hobbies and faith.
Though very much a contemporary woman, she placed enormous value on traditions for all of life. Her small stature understated her many strengths. She had an unparalleled love for the beauties of life and the goodness of God's creation. Bev portrayed a grace and dignity that was evidence of her upbringings, her family and her community. Her softspokenness and infectious smile belied the competence, confidence and competitiveness with which she approached life, its wonders, its joys and its challenges.
Her approach to life, its duties and tasks, was always with a positive attitude. She was an inspiration, light and friend to those she met and never sought the spotlight for her works. True happiness abounded within her and radiated to those about her. Bev enjoyed gardening at her Hagerstown home, "putzing" about the farms in Alabama, activities with her girls, family North Carolina beach trips and running the dogs. She was a marvelous and accomplished homemaker, mother and wife, always a steady influence in our life. She was a caring and steadfast friend.
Bev was a lifelong member of Rockingham United Methodist Church, attended and supported John Wesley in Hagerstown, a member of Fountainhead Country Club, Maryland Symphony Guild, a previous board member of Hagerstown Day Nursery, Hagerstown Garden Club and other community organizations.
She is survived by her husband David; and daughters, Mary Katherine and Abigail Marie as well as her parents. This year recognizes the 40th year of Bev's loving marriage with David.
Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North Hagerstown, Md.

Marvin Keith “Kebo” Davis, 68, of Rockingham, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
ReplyDeleteKebo was born September 25, 1947 in Richmond County, a son of the late Marvin A. “Mutt” and Hazel Colleen “Pete” Solomon Davis. He had served his country in the US Navy and had attended Victory Baptist Church. He had worked with CSX Railroad. Kebo then owned and operated WLWL Radio in Rockingham for many years during which he dedicated much of his time to preserving the music he loved. He treasured not only the music and its artists but the shag, its dancers and the clubs who supported them.
Kebo was the 1998 recipient of the Carolina Beach Music Billy Scott Lifetime Achievement Award in Radio. He spent countless years on the air waves as the soundtrack of your summer and was happiest when he was playing the music he loved for the people he loved.
His voice was unmistakable, as was his handshake, and whether you heard him on the radio or spent time with him in person, he left a lasting impression. He also may have left you with a nickname that stuck with you for years to come.
Kebo was a fan of the Carolina Panthers and he and his daughter, Cameron, followed them devotedly together each fall weekend.
